Grandstand Section 5

Section 5, officially Right Field Grandstand 5, is way out in right field, straddling an extension of the foul line. It formerly extended down to the ramp openings, but the area between the poles and the ramp opening was reclassified as Right Field Boxes (now Right Field Box 91).  In 1975 Section 3 held 605 seats in 35 rows.  In 2016 it held 419 seats in 17 rows.  Currently it holds 288 seats in 15 rows (Hornitos Cantina seats are not counted.)

When Sections 1 through 10 were built in 1934, there were no seats, only benches.  Rows were closer together, so there was even less leg room than there is now.  In these sections you will notice that after every 4th row there is extra vertical separation from the next row.  That indicates that 4 rows of seats were created out of 5 rows of benches.  A few inches of concrete were added to make four rows deeper, and the fifth row was sacrificed.  So when the following row was made deeper, it started on a level an extra row higher than the 4th.  What this means is that if you are in rows 2, 6, 10, or 14, you have an extra height advantage over the row in front of you.

Section 5 has long been considered the worst grandstand section at Fenway.  Not only is it far from home plate, but the seats are facing the bullpens.

To put the worst seating area to better use, the Tully Tavern was created before the 2017 season (now called the Hornitos Cantina).  To accommodate it, the stair (aisle) between Sections 4 and 5 was moved into Section 4, reassigning some of those seats into Section 5.  This results in a strange situation in which rows 2 through 11 have seats at two different angles.  The following seats, now in Section 5, were formerly in Section 4 and are angled more toward the diamond:  2/1, 3/1-2, 4/1-2, 5/1-3, 6/1-3, 7/1-4, 8/1-5, 9/1-5, 10/1-6, 11/1-8, 12/1-6, 13/1-5, 14/1-3, 15/1.

The Hornitos Cantina has 18 seats in Section 5: fourteen swivel seats, two table seats, and two wheelchair spaces.

Row 15 seat 1 is now an isolated single seat.

Rows 1 through 10 are priced higher than rows 11 through 15.

Ghost seats: Row 11 seats 16-27.

Best seats: Row 1 Seat 19 (aisle)
Worst seat: TBD
